We love playing together.
Julie (the beauty) & Keith (the blues guy)
Keith was writing songs in his closet at 11 years old, and fighting or defending his three brothers out on the streets. A star wrestler and football star, and secret romantic poet. Music is his true passion. He once hitchhiked from Chicago to California with a backpack and his guitar. When not playing, he’s got a tool in his hand. Renovating homes from Orange County to Charlotte; he’s always building, fixing or tinkering. He swims almost daily; listening for songs to cover next while gliding through the water. That’s right; waterproof earbuds!
A lifelong singer and voice coach, Julie was leaning into trauma research/recovery and self-discovery when she met Keith. “I had just started writing songs at 41. After singing other peoples’ songs my whole life, I finally felt like I had something to say.” A native Charlottean (a rare songbird, indeed!), Julie is a known as a versatile singer, and a frequent performer around town, and at Tosco Music Parties.
Keith and Julie would see each other at songwriting workshops around town every few months, and started to connect.
Becoming Beauty & The Blues
The summer Julie took him to Houston to meet her family was their first accidental gig. Julie’s sister asked them to play for a local fundraiser. Beauty & The Blues was born.
Picking up more gigs around town; developing their vibe with the songs they chose. Keith’s Chicago roots show up strong in his blues-y groove on almost every song. Julie says she got to develop a more flirty fun side with songs: “Maybe because we fell in love, we were partial to playing sweet sexy love songs…ooh, but we both love the heart-wrenching heartbreak songs too.”
Regular performers at Heist Brewery, Artisan’s Palate, Vintner’s Hill Wine, Dover Vineyards and many others in the Charlotte area, Keith and Julie have garnered fans through their sweet groove and exceptional music making these last seven years together.
“Julie and Keith play regularly at the Artisan’s Palate. I make sure to book them early on so I can have them at least once a month (and often more if I can). They are reliable and professional and so clearly having fun doing their thing. It makes it easy for me and my customers to just sit back and enjoy.
And then there’s their talent! Amazing.”
